Korfball

Mixed-Gender Sport

Korfball is a mixed-gender team sport that originated in Netherlands in 1902. It was invented by Dutch school teacher Nico Broekhuysen with the aim of creating a sport where boys and girls could play together equally. The word β€œkorf” means basket in Dutch.

Korfball is played between two teams of eight players (four boys and four girls). The objective of the game is to score by throwing the ball into a basket mounted on a high pole. The game focuses on teamwork, cooperation, strategy, and equal participation rather than individual dominance. It is now played worldwide under the guidance of the International Korfball Federation.
